Though not the newest technology in the video surveillance industry, Digital Video Recording
(DVR) technology still remains a viable option in the market. Their ease of use and reliability
have made them very popular. DVR's can commonly be purchased with 1, 4, 9, 16, or 32
video channels. The video is recorded on Hard Disk Drives (HDD's) inside the DVR, with
some allowing removal of the HDD for backup or ease of replacement. Most DVR's are
equipped with an Ethernet port for connecting to a computer network for the
purpose of remote viewing. The software used to accomplish this is proprietary and can only
be used with like name brands. If an enterprise solution is desired, then IP Video lends better to that environment. We recommend DVR's for standalone applications with little
need for growth or small to medium installations that are left unattended.
