The newest edition to the surveillance camera arena is the IP Camera. It differs from analog cameras by transmitting it's video over an Ethernet cable instead of the traditional coax cable. The camera can be powered with the standard 24VAC, or by using the new 802.3AF protocol, otherwise known as Power Over Ethernet (POE). Using POE, only one CAT5e cable to each camera is needed.
