For IP camera systems, some medium is needed for recording. Lending to open architecture
of the IP infrastructure, a standard Windows based server can be used. These servers can be
loaded with a Windows operating system (OS) of your choice. Depending on the number of
days of video you wish to keep, directly correlates to the number of and size of hard disk
drives (HDDs) in the server. Typical systems range from one terabyte to one petabyte. Any
brand of server will work, allowing you to stay consistent with servers you may already
possess for other tasks. This means that IT staff will not need trained on new equipment. If
you are impartial to brand, we have had a lot of success with Supermicros products. They
provide chaises that can hold up to 16 HDDs. These drives can be configured in RAID 5
providing redundancy in archived video in the event of a HDD failure. So even if one or more
HDDs fail, your video is still complete and safe. Contact our sales staff for server
requirements and a specific configuration tailored to your needs.
